Caroline Kennedy Bows Out Of NY Senate Race

Reports are confirming that Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn her name from consideration for the New York Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

What a rigamarole. First she was the favorite, then she wasn't, then Governor David Patterson said he'd make a decision the week after the inauguration. Last night there was rumor that Kennedy bowed out due to concerns of Sen. Ted Kennedy's health; those rumors were refuted by Kennedy. And now this afternoon comes word that Kennedy, who cited "personal reasons," would have had trouble with tax and housekeeper issues according to MSNBC.

I really didn't have any issues regarding Kennedy, either pro or con. But after all this craziness, whether media driven or self inflicted, it's best to let this whole thing drop and let her walk away. There seems to be way too much crap going on with these gubernatorial appointments.

Governor Patterson now says he'll name the new junior senator from New York tomorrow. Although NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo seems to be a favorite, there is word that Patterson is under pressure to appoint a woman to the seat.
