It looks like The McCain Girls came out with another viral video using "Here Comes The Rain Again" by the Eurythmics called "Here Comes McCain Again." Unfortunately, YouTube has pulled it because of copyright infringment.
Damn! Just when I wanted something that would truly make me laugh.
Can you imagine? "So baby, talk to me... like John McCain." Uh, okay... "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt."
I also think it's funny that the viral McCain videos are songs that were released in the early 80's when John McCain was complaining about kids and their new-fangled music.

Bill Clinton: Hillary On Bosnia? It's the Media's Fault
Slick Willie is at it again. After the story has died down, here's what Bill Clinton said in trying to defend his wife's Bosnia fabrication:"You know, I got tickled the other day. A lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me. But there was a lot of fulminating because Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated — and immediately apologized for it — what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995. Did y'all see all that? Oh, they blew it up.
Here's the full statement:
...Now I say that because, what really has mattered is that even then she was interested in our troops. And I think she was the first first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt to go into a combat zone. And you woulda thought, you know, that she'd robbed a bank the way they carried on about this. And some of them, when they're 60, they'll forget something when they're tired at 11 at night, too.”
Uh, no Bill. She didn't "misspeak" once, she repeated that story multiple times. She didn't make that speech at "11 at night" and how the fuck do you "forget" that YOU WERE NOT SHOT AT?! How do you forget that YOU DID NOT RUN with your heads ducked into waiting vehicles? And why on earth is Bill Clinton bringing this subject up after it has died down and trying to defend it? Did he forget that we have video of that day in Tuzla?
And as Mike Allen of Politico notes, "The Eleanor Roosevelt claim also has been questioned, since Pat Nixon traveled to Vietnam in 1969." But I suppose Bill didn't want to compare Hillary to anyone or anything Nixon-related.
In her defense, the Clinton campaign issued a statement taking responsibility for the multiple times she has misstated the events. But it's interesting, and in my opinion calculating, that Bill would bring this up and try to convince one group individually in an appearance while the campaign distances itself from his remarks.
"A lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me." Yeah, that's right, Bill. We're all against you. It's another vast conspiracy against all things Clinton. But this time you can't blame Richard Mellon Scaife, can you?

Err America Forces Randi Rhodes Out
So at first, it looked like Air America Radio suspended Randi Rhodes because it "does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by [their] hosts,” after Rhodes called Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro "fucking whores" during a comedy routine in a San Francisco nightclub.
After two weeks off the air, it was announced "that Rhodes terminated her contract Wednesday after she refused to apologize on air for her remarks."
“We sought an apology, because of what she had said…like Imus, like David Shuster,” [President of Air America Media, Mark] Green said. “She refused and instead last night informed us she was terminating her contract with Air America, which she has the option to do.”
He said she was not forced out — “She exercised her option.”
After an interview on Larry King however, we found out the truth. Rhodes said that Air America had gotten new owners and that "this thing is really about them wanting to change my contract." According to Rhodes, when the new owners discovered "they didn't have the right to fire [her]" they used parts of her stand-up routine as a means to get her to leave Air America. Watch the interview video here.
It didn't take long for Rhodes to find employment.
The Nova M Radio Network is thrilled to announce the addition of “The Randi Rhodes Show” to its nationally syndicated talent offerings beginning this Monday, April 14, 2008.
So now Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy are working for the same network. Good for Nova M. Their vision of progressive talk radio is everything Air America should have been.
I've been leery about the extensive programming changes (not for the better) that have happened over these last few months on Err America's supposed flagship station in New York and was wearing my tinfoil hat when expressing to others that I thought it was a conspiracy to sink the radio station before the general election.... now I'm not so sure I'm wrong.
And who will cover the time slot left vacant by Rhodes at AAR? Thom Hartmann? Sam Seder?
Richard Belzer will fill Randi Rhodes' 3pm-6pm time slot on Air America all next week...
The epilogue remains to be written.

Progress In Iraq
General David Petraeus: "I've repeatedly noted that we haven't turned any corners, we haven't seen any lights at the end of the tunnel. The champagne bottle has been pushed to the back of the refrigerator. And the progress, while real, is fragile and is reversible."
Please tell me again how the surge has worked and how everything is going well in Iraq. Wait, I'll let "Johm" McCain tell me:"...while the job of bringing security to Iraq is not finished, as the recent fighting in Basra and elsewhere vividly demonstrated, we're no longer staring into the abyss of defeat and we can now look ahead to the genuine prospect of success. Success, the establishment of a peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state that poses no threats to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists, this success is within reach."
So according to Petraeus we "haven't turned any corners" and "haven't seen any lights at the end of the tunnel" and the progress is "fragile and reversible," while Mr. Straight Talk thinks "success is within reach." This man is definitely going off the deep end, while conflating Al-Qaeda in Iraq with Iran and Shiites again!
Altogether now: Al-Qaeda in Iraq is a small obscure extremist SUNNI sect, right Johm?
MCCAIN: There are numerous threats to security in Iraq and the future of Iraq. Do you still view Al Qaeda in Iraq as a major threat?
PETRAEUS: It is still a major threat, though it is certainly not as major a threat as it was, say, 15 months ago.
MCCAIN: Certainly not an obscure sect of the Shiites overall…
PETRAEUS: No.
MCCAIN: … or Sunnis or anybody else.
...Sigh...

Petraeus Speaking Now on Iraq Status
Gen. Petraeus is currently giving his update on security in Iraq. I have a feeling he'll say either one of two things:
A - The surge worked and security is going well, therefore me must stay in Iraq to continue giving them a chance at political reconciliation, or
B - Violence, although down initially has now escalated exponentially in recent weeks, therefore me must stay in Iraq to continue giving them a chance at political reconciliation.
UPDATE: Here's an AP article... I wasn't far off.

McCain-Rice 2008: They Can't Be Serious, Can They?
“There's this ritual in Washington: The Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders -- about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” [Republican strategist Dan] Senor said. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice -- the first time a secretary of state has visited the Wednesday meeting.”
Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign.
“What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with," Senor said. "The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30 to 45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is.
“The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, 'I get it, that person could be president tomorrow,'" Senor added. "Condi Rice is an option.”
Seriously? Condoleezza Rice? What they "get" is trying to kill two birds with one stone - the two birds being the women's vote and the black vote. A two for one sale!
The following is the "experience" they are touting.

Mark Penn Out?
Statement from Maggie Williams
After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign; Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc. will continue to provide polling and advice to the campaign. Geoff Garin and Howard Wolfson will coordinate the campaign's strategic message team going forward.
What's the difference between what he was doing before and now? If it's a resignation, then any continuing contact just smells of a smokescreen. They want him to continue kitchen sink tactics while no longer appearing to be part of the campaign. Just more bullshit.

AP-Paris: Security officials extinguished the Olympic torch three times Monday as protests against China's human rights record turned a relay through Paris into a chaotic series of stops and starts.

Charlton Heston Dead at 84
NY TIMES: Charlton Heston, who appeared in some 100 films in his 60-year acting career but who is remembered chiefly for his monumental, jut-jawed portrayals of Moses, Ben-Hur and Michelangelo, died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 84, according to his family.
It's a shame that Heston's amazing career is overshadowed in my eyes by his NRA presidency in his later life.
Rumors of his death being the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while cleaning his rifle are greatly exaggerated. As my friend Armadillo Joe said, "I guess we can take his gun now."
On a lighter note, here's my favorite Heston quote:
What's yours?
