Same As It Ever Was

BAGRAM, Afghanistan — Word that NATO personnel had burned an undisclosed number of Korans and were preparing to dispose of many more by incineration set off an angry protest here on Tuesday. NATO officials rushed to apologize publicly and profusely, trying to head off what they feared could be a nationwide outburst of violence as news of the burning was gradually broadcast across the country.

This is why we'll never take the next step as a society of humans. When we realize that for some, this has all become some sick, goddamned crusade in the guise of a "war on terror" the sooner we will all be better for it. How often has religious descrimination and book burning worked? Answer: never.

Mainstream Media Suckered Again - UPDATED

You'd think that after Al Capone's vault, yellowcake in Niger, Piltdown Man, weapons of mass destruction and the Balloon Boy - the mainstream media,  who believed a crackpot that said God told him to burn the Qurans on 9/11 and then canceled it on an agreement that Park51 would be moved to a different location, would know better. But they don't. This time they got took by Gabby Hayes.

UPDATE (8pm): Apparently, Pastor Gabby Hayes has now clarified that the Quran burning is "suspended" while he prays to figure out what to do next. And the media is riveted. ...Wow.

I like this guy already! Keith Ellison, who has been attacked for his choice (especially by Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode) to use the Koran for swearing in during his photo-op, will use an English translation published in the 1750's that was owned by...wait for it.... THOMAS JEFFERSON!
