Obama On Patriotism

By the way, in case you missed it on the McCainstream Media due to phony outrage over Gen. Clark's comments, Barack Obama gave a pretty good speech today on patriotism.





Also, I'm a little bit disappointed in Obama's "rejection" of Clark's comments. Although we all know it was necessary for political purposes, can anyone explain to me what Clark said that was so wrong? He praised McCain's service and sacrifice while questioning what it had to do with his qualifications to be Commander-in-Chief.

And speaking of "Commander-in-Chief", how noble of him to take credit for the new G.I. Bill as well as thanking McCain when both of them were opposed to the bill from the outset and McCain didn't even bother to vote on it. What a putz.

Dealing With Stupidity In The General Election

I just came across an article in our local rag, The New York Daily News, entitled Ugly Truth Why HIllary Clinton Won't Quit:

...Many in the white, working-class crowd were simply not ready to back Barack Obama - for reasons that are disturbing.

"I'm kind of still up in the air between McCain and Hillary," said Jason Jenkins, 32, who cited information from a hoax e-mail as a reason to spurn Obama.

"I'll be honest with you. Barack scares the hell out of me,"he said. "He swore on the Koran."

Obama did manage to pull in many white voters, but still encountered similar sentiments from a man who refused to shake his hand at a diner in Greenwood, Ind.

"I can't stand him," the man said. "He's a Muslim. He's not even pro-American as far as I'm concerned."

And sadly, this is why shitheads like former New York City Mayor Ed Koch are calling Obama a loser in the general election and why Clinton still thinks she has a shot. It's the unspoken race issue. They hope that idiots will vote for Clinton not because they actually support her, but because they still think Obama is a Muslim, or they put too much emphasis on Rev. Wright, or they just won't vote for a nigger. Especially an uppity one who is smarter and richer than they are.

What? No Lapel Pin?

TPM: "How can I vote for a president who won't wear a flag pin?" Mrs. [Nash] McCabe, a [52 year old] recently unemployed clerk typist, said in a booth at the Valley Dairy luncheonette in this quiet, small city in western Pennsylvania.

Mr. Obama has said patriotism is about ideas, not flag pins.

"I watch him on TV," Mrs. McCabe said. "I keep looking for that lapel pin."

And there you have it, folks, the lowest common denominator. When you are too stupid to understand the issues, or too apathetic to care, when you can't tell the difference between something important and something trivial, you tend to try to make your life simpler by making decisions based on whether someone wears a lapel pin, if you think they'd be fun to have a drink with, or what their bowling average may be, or even worse, their gender or the color of their skin.

I mean, hell, how can you trust someone who doesn't wear his or her feelings on their sleeve in the form of a flag pin or a $3.99 "Support The Troops" yellow ribbon magnet on the back of their SUV? But as my friend Armadillo Joe says, "Just make sure its a magnet, not an actual sticker - you wouldn't want to hurt the resale value of your car." Patriotism does have its limits.

But what's going to happen to the Nash McCabes of the country when they get a load of this?










Their poor little raisinbrains are going to explode. How can we trust someone who doesn't wear a lapel flag pin? What is this country coming to? ...Eh, at least he's an old, white man. That's something they can "cling" to.
