John McCain, Go F*ck Yourself

It's too bad he's not following his friend, Holy Joe out the door.

UN Ambassador Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from consideration as a nominee to replace Hillary Clinton as the next Secretary of State, after a constant barrage of criticism leveed at her from Republicans following her intelligence community sanctioned statements on the Sunday talk shows a few weeks back, with Senate curmudgeon John McCain leading the charge.
“If nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities,” she wrote in a letter to Obama that was released to the public on Thursday afternoon.

...Rice said in November that she “relied solely and squarely on the information provided to me by the intelligence community” in delivering her assessment. Intelligence officials said that they approved her talking points, having decided ties to organized terrorism, and specifically al Qaeda, were still unclear at that point just five days removed from the attack.
The knives were out from the very beginning, and McCain certainly knows this as I'm sure he got the same intelligence reports that Rice used to make her comments. But it wasn't very long ago when John McCain defended another Rice, Condoleezza, in her nomination for the same position after "mushroom clouding" us into a war. But that Rice was a Republican, wasn't she...

Fuck you, John McCain. You can't retire fast enough.

Strong On Defense Republicans

The perception, or at least what the GOP would have you believe, is that the Republican Party is the party that will keep you safe from evil, foreign boogeymen while the Democratic Party is weak on national security and defense.

And yet, we see stories like Senator Richard Shelby's, who until recently help up every Obama administration nomination until he got paid off, and even after backing off, still has holds on top positions in the Air Force. And he couldn't care less.

CNN's Dana Bash asked the right-wing senator yesterday whether his actions are justified.
BASH: I spoke with Geoff Morrell over at the Pentagon and just asked him what the impact is of not having these three people in place -- one of whom, as you know, is the number two at the Air Force. He said, "Without these people, we're not firing on all cylinders." And he also said, "It does adversely affect the organization."
Are you worried about that? This is a time of war --
SHELBY: The Pentagon is a big place. I don't think one or two will affect anything except on the margins.
BASH: Do you think that the nominees you have holds on are qualified?
SHELBY: Oh, I don't have any idea.
That's right. Republican Alabama Senator Richard Shelby has no idea if nominees for three top positions in the Air Force are qualified, yet he continues to block them. What would Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, or any of the Fox News hacks be spewing if this had been a Democratic Senator during the Bush years? Just another example of the infinite hypocrisy in the GOP.

Sanford Censured

As Major Garrett would say, "What took you so long?"

After nearly four hours of deliberation and multiple rounds of balloting, the South Carolina Republican Party voted Monday night to censure Mark Sanford for secretly traveling overseas to visit his mistress — but stopped short of calling on the governor to resign.
We can't totally blame them. After all, if a schlub like Mark Sanford can get an Argentine hottie to play Evita & Juan then you gotta give him a little credit. So what if he called for the resignation of Bill Clinton when he was in the same situation? Obviously his mistake was that he didn't keep his shenanigans overseas.

So, a little slap on the wrist for a Governor who abandoned his state for almost a week with no information to his whereabouts in case of emergency. But hey, it's okay if you're a Republican.

Party of No to Vote Against War Supplemental

The same Republican party that likened voting against war spending bills as anti-American and against supporting the troops for the last six years is now planning to vote against the $106 billion spending bill.

...Republicans say this year is different. Democrats have included a $5 billion increase for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help aid nations affected by the global financial crisis. Republicans say that is reason enough to vote against the entire $106 billion spending bill and are certain voters will understand.
Sure, the voters will understand the amazing hypocrisy of the Republican party. It doesn't matter to the GOP that the global financial crisis was our doing. They're taking a stand, dammit, and troops in Afghanistan be damned. It doesn't matter that there were non-war additions when they voted for the funding during the Bush administration, like farm subsidies or an increase in the minimum wage, luckily advanced by Democrats.
In 2005, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) went so far as to say sending troops into battle and not paying for it would be an “immoral thing to do.”
But this is different, isn't it Rep. Cole? Because It's OK If You Are Republican.

UPDATE (2:25pm): John Boehner now makes it all clear. Voting for war supplemental bills pre-2009 supports the troops. But now, voting against war supplemental bills supports the troops. Another bourbon, please!

Patrick McHenry Is A Douchebag

McHenry: "We spent the night in the Green Zone, in the poolhouse of one of Saddam’s palaces. A little weird, I got to be honest with you. But I felt safe. And so in the morning, I got up early — not that I make this a great habit — but I went to the gym because I just couldn’t sleep and everything else. Well, sure enough, the guard wouldn’t let me in. Said I didn’t have the correct credentials.

It’s 5:00 in the morning. I haven’t had sleep. I was not very happy with this two-bit security guard. So you know, I said, “I want to see your supervisor.” Thirty minutes later, the supervisor wasn’t happy with me, they escort me back to my room. It happens. I guess I didn’t need to work out anyway."

The "two-bit security guard" in question was a US soldier protecting McHenry's fucking ass while he was in Baghdad. Whenever I watch C-Span (which is getting harder and harder watching these dipshits filibuster everything including their mother) my head explodes every time McHenry opens the gaping shithole in his head. He is the lowest of the low. "Sleezebag" just oozes out of him. Dirty, little fucker.

By the way, where's the "GOP-right wing blog-support the troops" outrage for comments like that? It's only reserved for liberals, Democrats and the media.
