Morning Joke™ (The We Hate Socialism Edition)

So, I thought I'd tune in to Morning Joke™ which I rarely do anymore and see what they were talking about. I guessed it would either be abortion or the GM bankruptcy. DING! DING! DING! I'm a winner! There's Erin Burnett talking about the market being up 200+ points yesterday.

Here's part of the exchange (paraphrasing):

Mike Barnicle and Scooter: So the markets liked this GM bankruptcy news apparently.

Burnett: Well, the government owns more now, so that's a good thing, right?

MB & Scooter: NO!

EB: (snarkily) Oh, right. Right. Hey, would you guys buy a small Pinto-sized car?

MB & Scooter: NO! NO!

EB: Oh, because that's what GM says it's going to make.

Scooter: We're big boys, we don't fit in those cans.

Pinto-sized cars? Well, if the Santelli financial media is going to characterize the new GM product as a piece of shit car that can explode when rear-ended, then yeah, no one will buy them. I'm not suggesting that they should be a propaganda machine for the automakers, but maybe they shouldn't be a propaganda machine for the "fiscal conservatives" either since I don't think that group really exists.

Now, Doucheborough is debating Eugene Robinson on the merits of the stimulus package in full snark while simultaneously plugging his book, saying he thought the money was not being well spent. And it's not about the amount, because if they had come out with a $2 TRILLION package that was more targeted instead of the "sugar high" that we got, he might not have been critical about it.

He's got a point. There are those who don't think that the stim package was big enough. But to suggest that he wouldn't have opposed it or criticized it is just laughable. I have to stop watching now because I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Morning Joke™ (The Frozen Gonad Edition)

I woke up this morning poised to post something with nothing in mind. So I thought I'd turn on the Farnsworth invention and see what was on Morning Joke™. Surely I could find something within 30 seconds. And I was right.

What the fuck? Iced coffee, anyone? The Morning Joke™ crew is televising live from Washington, D.C. in anticipation of President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress tonight. Did no one tell NBC? They're sitting out in front of the White House freezing their balls off! Doesn't NBC have studios in Washington?!

These imbeciles are sitting on the White House lawn interviewing Senator Chuck Schumer from his remote spot in the warm Capital Building but forcing others like new Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to sit out there like a schmuck giving these guys time with the wind howling, Mika shivering under a blanket and Mike Barnicle about to die from hypothermia. They can barely talk because their faces a frozen stiff.

According to Weather.com, it's currently 12° with the wind chill factor in D.C. Willie "Scooter" Geist is nowhere to be seen. Maybe he's the smart one after all. Oh wait, there he is on the other side of the White House proving he's just as moronic as the rest of them. At least he didn't disappoint.

Scarborough Says "Fuck You" On Air

A priceless Morning Joke™ moment. Scarborough drops the F-Bomb! He doesn't even realize he said it. And then Mika goes with the tried and true "Run away! Run away!" desk anchor technique and goes so far as to say he didn't just blurt out "fuck you" on national television, but then realizes that even she can't talk the country out of this one.

Can he be fired now? Please?

ADDING - The sad part was that he was finally making a good point; that the Obama campaign and their members were a good group of steady men that "don't go around flipping people off and screaming fuck you at the top of their lungs" like John McCain.

UPDATE (10:30am): Commenter "dontpanic23" on Bob Cesca's blog brings this to our attention - it wasn't the first time he had said it on air.

Now there is rumor that Scarborough has been suspended for the incident. I haven't found any confirmation of that yet.

The Milhous Argument

I happened to be home to watch the first segment of Hardball today. Guest host Mike Barnicle was filling in for Tweety and of course, all the talk was about how BOTH John McCain and Barack Obama were running negative campaigns. EXCUSE ME?! Equating John McCain's "Britney" ad (she's a W. supporter by the way) which he says he's "proud of" to Barack Obama's rebuttal ad correcting the record of the lies told in the McCain ad, and insinuating that they are equally negative is appalling but that argument is for another post.

What I wanted to bring attention to was good ol' reliable Pat Buchanan and his recurring meme that there's nothing wrong with using Obama's middle name "Hussein" in ads or speaking it when referencing Obama, to which everyone on the panel, Michelle Bernard, Bob Shrum and Barnicle just went giddy over. They couldn't stop laughing at Buchanan for comparing Barack Hussein Obama's name to Richard Milhous Nixon.

Hey Pat, it's not what you say but how you say it. Bernard eventually said there's absolutely nothing wrong with the name but it's wrong when you say it in a tone that makes people think they're electing a jihadist to be president. At one point, even Buchanan just starts chortling because I'm sure even he couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth.

When I first watched it I was enraged, but then I looked at it again and just laughed along and shook my head at the ridiculousness of "Statler's" statements. Attempting to call the subject of McCain's attacks "real issues" because that's the only way he can get close to winning is a complete joke. Those Republicans talking point regurgitators will literally say anything and not care how stupid they look when saying it. Same goes for Ron Christie and even Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Global Warming: Mass Neuroses?!

This is why I don't watch "Morning Joe." Listen to this list of substitute hosts sitting with Mika Brzezinski: Mike Barnicle, Pat Buchanan and guest GE CEO Jack Welch! And he's asking people to read an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal which "makes an interesting case" that global warming is really just mass neuroses and is more of a movement than anything else. Mika states that at some point this is going to come back to haunt us if it is ignored, to which Welch responds, "We'll see." What does he care? He's got one foot in the grave anyway.

And now Pat Buchanan is dumbfounded as to why Barack Obama isn't 20 points ahead in the polls. The ol' "why can't he seal the deal?" argument again. Now Tucker Carlson is shrieking about it as well. This is an awful, awful show.

My wife just called across the room and said he sounded like Bill O'Reilly. I said, "No, O'Reilly has a lower voice. Tucker Carlson is a little girl."
